Project Overview
Anoka County, in partnership with MnDOT and the Cities of Ham Lake and Blaine, is undertaking a project to improve Hwy 65 at the Bunker Lake Boulevard intersection.
Hwy 65 is a vital link to the Twin Cities urban core for commuters, businesses, freight traffic, and visitors. The roadway is considered by many as an east-west barrier for mobility, to the extent that commuters and freight traffic often choose to avoid the current at-grade crossings including Bunker Lake Boulevard due to congestion and delay. This results in regional traffic deviating onto parallel local routes, including adjacent frontage roads.
A PEL study was conducted in a previous phase and several potential alternatives were identified. The project team will now focus on what improvements solve the issues and provide opportunity in this specific location. This will be achieved through continuous study and community engagement efforts.
